What do invisalign buttons do

And that means a few things for the patient. First, your treatment will no longer be as simple and as comfortable as it might have been pitched. Many patients who use attachments and buttons find it can be difficult when putting in and removing the aligners because the aligners will now fit more snugly due to the attachments. Some patients even describe it as painful to take the aligners in or out. To apply the attachments, your orthodontist will use a template aligner that has gaps in it where the attachments will be on your teeth.

First, the surface of your tooth will need to be roughened up a bit to create a surface to which the attachment will adhere.

Then, the template aligner will be put in, and the gel that will harden to become the attachment will be inserted in those gaps. A light will harden the gel. Once hardened, the template aligner will be removed and the orthodontist will remove any excess gel that has found its way onto the teeth.

The aligners can still be removed when eating, drinking, and caring for your teeth. Some changes to the smile are difficult to accomplish with just the aligners alone. For instance, if a tooth needs to be rotated or brought up a bit more above the gumline, or if a tooth is shaped a certain way or angled a certain way, it can be difficult for the aligner to apply the right pressure to move it properly. An attachment can work to provide an anchor point to help direct the force of the aligner more effectively and predictably.

Buttons are used when the orthodontist determines that certain movements cannot be achieved with the aligners alone. Elastics help guide the bite to ensure the upper and lower teeth line up properly. Placement of the buttons and attachments is an easy process. A template is created that marks exactly where they should be placed on the teeth.

Then, the teeth receiving them will be cleaned and prepared to allow the material to bond properly. The bonding material will be placed in the specially marked spots and a special light will be used to harden or set the composite material. Once treatment is over we simply just polish them off the teeth. There is no damage to the enamel whatsoever. These small hooks act as anchors for interarch bands that are used to correct issues like underbites or overbites.

The buttons are colored to match the tone of your teeth so they remain subtle. Your aligners will come with small cutouts to make room for the buttons. If you need attachments with your Invisalign aligners, it may take a little getting used to. The attachments can make your aligners fit a bit more snugly than normal, meaning they can take a little extra effort to remove and put back in.
